Family Counsellor

Title / Position: Counselor to families

Summary

The successful candidate will guide families through the funeral process and sell cemetery services and supplies. Several administrative and follow-up tasks are also required in this position. The candidate must be able to work with little supervision and must demonstrate initiative and organizational skills. Sales experience will be considered a big asset.

Task Description
  • Answer customer questions about products, prices and availability 
  • Contact new or existing customers to discuss how specific products or services can meet their needs 
  • Complete paperwork neatly and accurately, including all interment verification procedures and filing 
  • Answer telephone inquiries about cemetery products and services for both pre-need planning and at need preparations 
  • Make appointments for families to come to the cemetery for arrangements 
  • Coordinate cemetery services with the maintenance team 
  • Follow-up with clients to ensure account payments
Requirements & Qualifications
  • French/English bilingualism 
  • 2+ years sales experience 
  • Bereavement sector experience would be considered an asset 
  • Professional communications skills and compassion 
  • Work well alone and as part of a team 
  • Computer skills (Windows, Office, etc.)

The successful candidate must be able to obtain a sales representative's license issued by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario which includes a criminal records check.

Summer Maintenance Attendant

Notre-Dame Cemetery in Ottawa is looking for a seasonal employee (maintenance team, 455 Montreal Road in Ottawa)

Tasks and Responsibilities

Machinery

  • Operating heavy machinery (backhoe)
  • Opening and closing of graves
  • Transferring earth and loading truck
  • Light machine maintenance

Landscaping Skills

  • Leveling, sowing and digging
  • Mowing and trimming
  • Maintaining the flowerbeds
  • Handling small manual field equipment

Building Maintenance

  • Maintaining and cleaning the interior columbarium
  • Cleaning windows and carpet care
  • Painting as required

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma
  • A competency card in the field of landscaping or construction is an asset
  • Experience in landscaping

Salary

  • As per current collective agreement
